Conservation of bats as key agents of the Valencian ecosystem
Bat conservation is a key mission to protect our biodiversity and strengthen local ecosystems of the Comunidad Valenciana.
One of the most relevant aspects of the role of bats is their ability to reduce mosquito populations, which are not only annoying for people, but can also be vectors of diseases such as malaria, dengue, leishmaniasis or Zika, which seriously affect both humans and domestic animals.
These small night-time guardians are not only part of a valuable cultural legacy; they also play a key role in natural pest control, helping farmers reduce the use of phytosanitary products and promoting more sustainable practices.
Along these lines, this conservation project focuses on strengthening bat populations in the Comunidad Valenciana through concrete actions and awareness campaigns, in order to protect these valuable natural allies.
One of the main strategies is installing nest boxes in key areas, where bats can take refuge, reproduce and, in turn, support the biological pest control. By acting as natural insect predators, these animals help reduce the need for pesticides on some crops, offering a method of pest control that is sustainable and environmentally safe.
Protecting bats is an investment in the sustainability and health of our natural environments, contributing to a greener and more balanced Comunidad Valenciana.
Let’s take care of bats and their habitat!
In collaboration with the Ajuntament de Alboraia, shelters have been installed at strategic points in the municipality to promote the growth of bat populations.
It is expected that these nest boxes will contribute to the consolidation of these valuable allies in the area, favouring the natural control of mosquito populations.
