Education to reduce food waste

Food waste is a serious problem: it is estimated that one third of the food produced for human consumption is lost or discarded along the supply chain, from primary production through to consumption.

In a context where the available data show that the amount of food produced does not meet all of the world’s demand, the social impact of this food waste is even more serious.

Although food waste occurs at every stage of the chain—production, transport and processing, distribution, hospitality and, finally, households—most food is wasted in the home (almost 50% of the total).
