in Valencian agriculture

One of the Association’s main aims is to support environmental preservation and sustainability while maintaining the traditions and richness of Valencian agriculture. To this end, we believe it is important to communicate developments in European environmental strategy.

To support this aim, we organised an event on Saturday 21 October 2023 at 9.30 am, at Centre El Portalet in Alboraia, bringing together the main stakeholders who can help make Valencian agriculture more sustainable, comply with European Union policies and benefit from the opportunities created by these new challenges.

The event featured experts from the relevant disciplines, public bodies, representatives of the Valencian agricultural sector and other organisations.

What is the European Green Deal?

The European Green Deal is an ambitious European Union initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and transform its economy into a circular, sustainable one. Agriculture is one of the sectors most affected by the Deal because it accounts for a significant share of greenhouse-gas emissions and has a major impact on biodiversity and the environment.

Valencian agriculture

The European Green Deal could significantly affect Valencian agriculture in several ways. One of its main aims is to reduce the use of pesticides and chemical fertilisers, which may affect agricultural production. In the Valencian Community, where agriculture is an important part of the economy, farmers will need to adopt new sustainable techniques and practices to meet the EU’s new standards.

The Deal’s goal of promoting organic farming could also have a positive effect in the Valencian Community, which is Spain’s leading region for organic crop production.
