At the Institut d’Estudis de l’Horta Valenciana Association, we continue working to place the women who sustain, transform and bring the huerta to life at the heart of our work. As part of the project Women of the Valencian Huerta, funded by the Directorate-General for Equality, we have produced a series of materials designed to inform, raise awareness and strengthen women’s role in the region.
Today we present four key resources: three informative infographics and a comprehensive digital guide, all of which are now available to the public.
1. Infographic: Timeline of women in the huerta
This infographic provides a clear visual overview of how women’s role has evolved from the traditional huerta to the present day. It shows how their work was essential yet invisible for centuries, and how women are once again taking a leading role in Valencian agriculture.

2. Infographic: Gender barriers and gaps in rural areas
Based on a feminist analysis of agriculture, this infographic identifies the main inequalities affecting rural women, including limited access to land, stereotypes and the double or even triple workload they often carry.
Essential material for understanding why equality remains an urgent challenge.

Why do these materials matter?
Because they help to:
-
Recognise the work of women who have sustained agricultural life for generations.
-
Raise the visibility of the inequalities that still persist in rural areas.
-
Inspire new women farmers and the wider public.
-
Strengthen women’s associations, which are essential to the huerta’s future.
-
Bring a feminist perspective to discussions about land, sustainability and food.
